Truth in Love
Reformed or Revived?
Reformation or Revival? Author: Jim Elliff Source: Christian Communicators Worldwide If you have been around me very long, you have heard me emphasize that the crying need, the absolutely desperate need of the hour, is reformation. You have also been aware that for years I have also longed for revival. Recently I was asked what the difference actually is, if any, between revival and reformation. This is an important question worthy of your precious time to think it through. Though many are blinded to the current dilemma, the fact is that a sound and lively truth-basis has been ejected from the premises of modern evangelicalism. Evangelicalism has been dispossessed of truth to such an extent that it is becoming frightening. In its place experience and mysticism are house-sitting the church or, if not these, then church growth pragmatism or an unhealthy preoccupation with the psychological. But the necessary doctrines of the holiness of... (more)

A Rich Beggar
Date: Saturday, August 30, 2014 Today's Chapters: Ezekiel 5-7 Message Title: A Rich Beggar Hello My Friend, Poverty, when you hear that word you imagine someone who is a beggar, no home, no job, and pretty much living in the worst conditions possible. The word poverty means, destitution or absence of property; indigence or nakedness; want of convenient means of subsistence or money. When you think about the actual meaning, we could be the richest person on earth and still be in poverty. God wants us to live the life of a king, but much too often we live the life or a beggar. “There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty. He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall flourish as a branch.” - Proverbs 11:24,28. Fourteen years had passed after Nebuchadnezzar conquered Judah and taken the Jews captive and into Babylon. Ezekiel was one of those held captive in Babylon, but God... (more)

The Common Ills
The death of Amnesty Internation

The death of Amnesty International? Did Amnesty International die today? And, if so, will anyone miss it? I don't think so. Amnesty started to hold people accountable -- governments and groups. By the 70s, when it was first showing up on most people's radars (a decade after the organization began) there was a special need for a body who would call out abusive governments, who would shine a light on political prisoners. That reputation led many to flock to the organization. Some to help raise awareness and money -- Joni Mitchell, Bruce Springsteen, Tracy Chapman, U2, Sting, etc. Some to try to use the organization -- which was always up to be used and co-opted -- to improve their own image (see Nike for one example). Today, Amnesty International is in the news. They issued a lengthy press release which opens: Fresh evidence uncovered by Amnesty International indicates that members of the armed group calling itself the... (more)
